Campiri platform

As a Product Designer at Iguana Technology (formerly Prague Labs), I worked on Campiri.com. Campiri is an online platform that connects campervan owners with those, who want to rent them.

New menu and footer

We changed the main navigation on Campiri, so we can work better with more content that is being added as the platform grows. I also updated the footer to go with the main menu content.

It is now easier for users to find what they need while we can also promote new categories and limited-time offers.

Optimization of the car listing process

Problem

A request came from the PM, saying that we are losing some potential clients in the process of listing their car on the website.

So we wanted to find out where exactly and why potential clients leave. And then give recommendations on how to improve the listing process.

Solution

We obtained data on the passability of individual screens and reviewed HotJar recordings. To add some qualitative data, we also contacted customers who didn’t complete the process.
I made a synthesis of these sources and came up with recommendations for improvement.

I can’t be too specific due to the NDA I signed, but I will give a few examples.

Note: Desktop first
We usually design mobile first, because most of our users are on mobile. I found out data that confirmed my assumption, that for the listing process, majority of users come from desktop. So we kept designing desktop first for this part of the website.

Suggestions

summary agreements
issue: people don’t sign the agreements, because they are overwhelmed by the length
proposal: each contract will have its own page. Research shows that clear progress is more important to the user than the overall number of steps.

issue: people are unsure about renting their campervan
proposal : include contact card for our customer care representative in the Listing Wizard. This card will contain the contact info, but also their name and photo. This will increase the trustworthiness of the platform.

Terms & conditions
issue: people don’t sign the Terms and conditions, because they are overwhelmed by their length and content. Common problem was the assumption that signing the contract binds the user to renting out their campervan.
proposal: infobar saying that signing the contract doesn’t mean you have to rent on Campiri or confirm every booking
proposal: infobar explaining main points of the contract.

Outcome

The project manager was happy, as we delivered what he asked for. Most of the suggestions were implemented. The proportion of people who finished the listing process increased. I assume the users were also happy, since we addressed their needs and pain points discovered in the interviews.

Improving the booking widget on a campervan page

Problem: In user testing, we noticed that users can be put off by the fact that pick-up and pick-off times are a specific hour.

Solution: Add ⓘ next to the pickup and pickoff times, in every step, on both desktop and mobile.

Add pickup and return times to conditions

Tooltip text: Pickup and return times can be discussed with the owner and possibly adjusted.

Calendar 2.0

Problem

The advantages of booking more days are not promoted enough.

Problem

Solution

Motivate people to book more days by highlighting these already existing advantages:

• Free campervan preparation
• Discount

In the current state, the availability date is determined by whether the booking ends before or after 12pm.

Solution

Now we will take into account the real pick-up/drop-off times that are defined at the listing level.

This means that if I have set the booking pick-up time to 10:00 and the drop-off time to 15:00, the last day of the booking, i.e. the day the car returns, will be marked as unavailable.

In case I have the above times swapped, i.e. pick-up time at 15:00 and drop-off time at 10:00, then the last day of booking is marked as available, as realistically one customer will return the car in the morning and someone else can rent it in the afternoon.

Process design of alterations

Both customers and campervan owners can request a change to their reservation. They have to wait for the other side to confirm. I designed the user flows and UX for desktop and mobile, as well as an additional column for our admin system.

Search bar suggestions

Adding a box with suggestions for popular places and searches. This new design also informs the user about the locations of Campiri bases, that users could be interested in. I did research and initial design, my colleague did the final design.

Analysis of the Spanish version of our site

Since we launched the Spanish version of our website, we had very low booking numbers. I found out some of the reasons for this and gave suggestions on how to improve. This included

  • Adding general information about Campiri’s origin and presence on the Spanish market

  • Changing the main hero image on the homepage to be more ‘Spanish’

  • Fixing incorrect translations, error messages

  • Changing the images for all vehicles in Spain to match the location

The changes did positively affect the booking numbers in Spain.

Forms & microcopy revision

I revised all the forms used on our website and created guidelines to improve the forms’ usability and consistency.

This also included a microcopy revision and the creation of guidelines for UX writing. Now, users are shown more descriptive and actionable error messages.
